This will cause the driver to experience fines and may affect the reputation of the company the driver is working for. The last thing the driver wants to do is lose business or their job that’s why properly securing the load is crucial.
3 tips for truck drivers on how to secure their load:
- Be aware of the weight
- Know the “WLL”
- Properly secure the load
Be aware of the weight
Before you can continue to secure the load you have to know what it weighs. The bill of lading has to be accurate for the shipment.
Know the “WLL”
You must know the Work Load Limit or the “WLL.” This is the term used to describe the maximum load that can be used to secure the tie downs.
Note: It’s important to double-check that your tie-downs are able to hold the load. NEVER exceed the WLL.
Properly secure the load
You have to make sure that when you are working on securing the load that your items have no room to shift. This is crucial. After you are done securing the load, be sure that you test your straps to make sure that everything is secure.
You never want to be lax about the securing of your load. If you have questions or need tips on what to do check out: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/cargo-securement/cargo-securement-rules for more information on updated regulations and rules.
