Do you like going to the grocery store to find food on the shelves? What about going to the mall to find the Christmas presents you need to check them off your list? All of these things happen because of truckers. Do you like being home with your family after you get off work at 5? Maybe you are able to work from home or you travel in a normal vehicle that can stop quicker. These are also things that a trucker does not get to experience.
It is important to realize that even though a trucker “chose” this way of life, doesn’t mean that you don’t have to show them respect.
Why you should thank a trucker.
Truckers do a lot more than go to work. A truckers job is delivering supplies and goods to grocery stores, shopping malls, and hospitals so that others are able to do their jobs. A trucker’s job literally “drives” the economy. Without truckers, we would find a lot of empty shelves and hospitals may not have their needed supplies to help the sick and wounded.
Truckers spend a lot of time on the road and away from their families. This means truckers may deal with a lot of stress and loneliness while on the road. Programs are put in place to help truckers take care of themselves, due to their prolonged sitting.
Trucking isn’t easy. Truckers miss a lot while on the road. Whether it be important milestones, birthday parties, holidays, school plays, graduations, anniversaries and so on; truckers don’t have the privilege of the 9-5 lifestyle that most do.
Truckers are also very helpful. There is an organization set up by truckers called, “Truckers Against Trafficking.” This organization was set up so that truckers could watch and recognize any signs of human trafficking while on the road.
Next time you get frustrated with a trucker while on the road or aren’t too sure what they do, it’s important to remember all they provide so that you are able to live. Next time you see a trucker out and about just say “thank you.”
